There is some truth to the fact that jewellery is associated with societal stature in most places, however, one need not necessarily be a royal to own expensive jewellery.

The cost of a jewellery item depends on the material that has been used to make the jewellery along with the craftsmanship involved. The rarer and more precious the materials, the more expensive the jewellery item will be.
